Getting started

The first hour with BookNDish is a short checklist. Nothing is public until you press the button at the end of it, so you can take your time.

Register and confirm your email

Create your account at the register page with your name, the restaurant's name and a password. A confirmation email follows. Open the link in it: a restaurant cannot go live before its email address is confirmed. If the email does not arrive, the checklist on Home has a "Resend the email" button.

The setup checklist

After you log in, Home opens on a panel called "Finish setting up". It lists the four required steps and links to each screen:

  • Create a menu category, under Menus.
  • Add your first dish, in that category.
  • Confirm your tax rate, under Settings, then Tax.
  • Add tables and print QR codes, under Bookings & floor, then Floor & QR.

Each step is ticked off as you complete it. The panel disappears once the restaurant is live and every step is done. Hide puts it away sooner, and the Setup button in the header brings it back.

Settings worth doing on day one

Under Settings, General, check the restaurant name, the currency, the default language guests see and the timezone. The timezone decides when your reporting day starts, so a wrong one makes last night's sales appear on the wrong date.

Under Team, then Team, invite the people who will work the till by email. Each invitation names a role: owner, manager or staff. A member can also be given a PIN of 4 to 6 digits, used on the till to switch who is acting and to approve voids.

Go live

When the four required steps are done, the checklist shows "Open my restaurant". Press it and the guest pages, the QR codes and the booking form start answering. Until then, a scanned code shows guests that the menu is not public yet.

The other guides

Each module has its own guide, and the Help link in the admin header opens the one for the page you are on. Find your way around explains how the menu is laid out.
