POS and till

The point of sale lives under Orders & payments, then POS. It is built for a tablet at the pass: a map of the tables, a running bill per table and a till that opens and closes with a count.

Open the till first

Payments need an open till session. Press "Open till" and enter the opening float. If someone tries to settle a bill with no till open, the POS refuses and says why.

Tables and rounds

Press "Open table", pick the table and enter the guest count. The count must fall within the minimum and maximum covers set for that table under Floor & QR, Tables. Add items, then "Send round to kitchen". Each round becomes a ticket on the kitchen display.

A guest's own orders from the QR code land in the same table session, so the bill is one bill whoever added to it.

Split, transfer, merge

"Split bill" divides the outstanding amount by items or evenly by a number of ways. "Transfer" moves an item to another table. "Merge" folds one open session into another when two parties join up. An item that is already ready or served in the kitchen can no longer be transferred.

Settling

"Settle bill" offers cash, card on the terminal and comp. A comp needs a reason. A tip can be recorded with any tender. A payment can never exceed the outstanding balance.

Voids and the manager PIN

Any member can void an item before it is sent. Once a round is firing, a void needs a manager PIN and a reason, and both are kept in the activity log. The restaurant PIN is set under Settings, General, Manager PIN. Each member can also carry a personal PIN, set under Team, used to switch who is acting on the till.

Closing the till

"Close till" asks for the declared cash. The POS compares it with what was recorded and shows the variance. Till summaries and every payment are listed under Payments.

The new-order sound

The order board, the POS and the kitchen display each have a "Sound off" button. Press it and it reads "Sound on": a short chime then plays when a new order arrives, or a new ticket on the kitchen screen. The choice belongs to the device, so the pass tablet can ring while the office laptop stays quiet. It starts off on every new device, and some browsers only allow the sound after one tap on the page.

When the connection drops

An "Offline" banner appears and rounds queue on the device with a count of orders waiting. They send themselves when the connection returns. If a round could not be queued, the POS says so plainly: write it down and retry.
